Evil Dead II

A GROOVY Look Inside The Upcoming “Evil Dead 2” Coloring Book!

knxenft

Awhile ago, I wrote a post about a horror coloring book and how over the last few years, adult coloring books have earned themselves enormous popularity around the world. [read that post here!] This is for good reason though, because some people see them as relaxing or therapeutic. As I am sure you are aware, there are many different themes for them; from Harry Potter to Animal Kingdoms; it really all depends what your inner child is calling for. But what if your “inner child” is none other than The King himself, Ash Williams? Then the people over at Space Goat Productions have you covered! Besides releasing a handful of comic books such as Evil Dead 2: Revenge Of Krampus, they are also putting out an Evil Dead 2 board game – which I really need on my shelf – this year! READ THAT AGAIN: an Evil Dead 2 board game! What’s next? A coloring book? Its funny you say that..because that’s exactly what is coming our way; Evil Dead 2: The Adult Coloring and Activity Book [aka: 96-pages of pure ‘Evil Dead 2’ fun!]

Of course, the book is not here yet, but you can still pre-order – arguably – the coolest coloring book of all time over on the Merch Goat website. Because I care – and I am just way too excited for this book – take a look at a few of the inside pages below and let me know what you think! They even suggest you share your “colored pages” on social media using the hashtag “#ColorMeDead” which to me sounds oh so appropriate!

I’ve also been writing way more reviews on my Letterboxd account, this is because I’m trying to review every single movie I watch  – with each review [usually] coming the very next day after viewing! Mezco Is Releasing A “Deadite Ash” Living Dead Doll.. But There’s A Catch!

deaditeashldd

Are you looking for a GROOVY early Christmas gift for yourself? I can help you with that in today’s post!

Many people dread the idea of Black Friday: stores/malls are jammed packed with people, nearly everyone is grumpy [both employee and customer], and everything worth buying is usually sold out by the time you get there. However, if you’re not feeling very brave this year, have no fear – many horror companies are celebrating Black Friday with special deals that won’t require you to leave the comfort and warmth of your couch, and one of those companies is offering up an exclusive toy that you will most definitely want to be home to grab; at least I do. As you can tell by the title, Mezco is releasing a variant of their recently released Ash Williams Living Dead Doll:

“This variant captures Ash’s unique look from the scene where he is possessed by the Deadites. With a trio of facial scars and dead milky-white eyes, this Living Dead Doll perfectly captures the moment before Ash violently cuts off his possessed hand.

Ash comes complete with The Necronomicon. He stands ten inches tall, features five points of articulation, and comes packaged in a collector-friendly, specially die-cut window box.”

For those that have followed warrenisweird for a while or know me in person, know that The Evil Dead series are some of my favorite films. We have seen him survive a night in the cabin, he has fought the Deadites, [and won] he has probably the coolest prosthetic hand ever, and now he’s the latest addition to the Living Dead Dolls family! Now, as the title implies, there is a catch to this release: it is a Black Friday exclusive specially sold through Mezco’s website beginning at 9am EST on November 25th! [that’s two days away!] Ash is selling for a total of $46 and shipping begins in early 2017. But do not just take my word for it, check out the awesome screenshots of the Living Dead Doll itself below

As a huge fan of the Evil Dead franchise, I desperately need this particular Living Dead Doll in my life. [I already have two: this one and this one] But we are not here to talk about me, we’re here to be asking You: What are Your thoughts on Deadite Ash as a Living Dead Doll? Are You planning on picking up one for yourself or would you rather not have him stare at you? [let me know which one in the comments!] Be sure to also go and follow me over on my Facebook page! REAL HORROR: an EVIL DEAD “super fan” is rebuilding THE CABIN!

whevu4x

Good morning boys and ghouls, there is someone I absolutely need to introduce you to. Someone, who apparently is a bigger Evil Dead fan than I am! [Blasphemy, I know!] I don’t want to wait around so let’s get right into it. Please allow me to introduce you to Mike, the man who runs EvilDeadWorkshed. Mike – like most of us – is a lifelong and self-proclaimed Evil Dead enthusiast who makes replica chainsaws from the series. Pretty cool stuff, but the main reason I want you to know this guy is because he’s undertaking an incredibly important challenge that is valuable to the horror community. Calling this “project:” Operation: Evil Dead Uproot, Mike has found the original filming site of Evil Dead II and decided that it needs to be salvaged and preserved, making sure sure that it will forever live on for those who wish to proclaim their love to the beloved film. WAIT WHAT?

you can read the whole story here, but here’s the basic version: Mike has been in touch with the owners of the property where Evil Dead II was filmed, which for those unaware, is in Wadesboro, NC. Ever since 2011, Mike has been meaning to visit the location, if only to step foot where Evil Dead was filmed. One day, the owners warned him that they, “…will be clearing the area where the cabin ruins are located in order to harvest the trees for local firewood businesses.” For Mike, the thought of this was too much to handle. “After having a long conversation with the owners, I have been given permission to come to the site and remove ANY and ALL Evil Dead II structures that are able to be saved prior to the devastation of the site area,Mike explains.

an AWESOME floor plan of the cabin – in film – by Patrick Soucy.

Unfortunately in 2014, the cabin collapsed due to a “…micro burst that hit [the owner’s] property“, so collecting and saving everything has proven to be somewhat of a difficult process. The frame of the work shed was so rotten and so damaged by termites, that Mike came to the logical conclusion to leave it behind and will build an identical frame upon which they’ll attach the original outer planks. As for materials and items from the cabin, he and his friend were able to gather as much as they possibly could, which in itself – is extremely impressive!

Of course, the million dollar question comes up: why does this matter? Luckily for you, Mike has an answer for that too! As Mike himself explains, “I am not making any money off of this. I spent a shit load of money to do this. I’m doing this for everyone. Bringing the secret and private site out of the woods and into public view. I plan on trying to bring some these structures to some of the [Western Pennsylvania] Comic-Cons.

That’s right! Depending on how everything goes – and you’re in the area – you might get a chance to interact with these original props and structures from Evil Dead II! Unfortunately being Canadian, this will prove difficult on my end..unless Steph and I went on a road trip; but knowing that someone is doing something many of us wouldn’t even fathom makes Mike one hell of a guy. From his official page, here’s a complete list of the items that were saved from the film’s site:

  • The entire Workshed [Complete Exterior and Roof Metal] Due to framing rot, the workshed collapsed during this process
  • The fake foam tree [180 degrees of the lower 5 feet of one tree]
  • 1 large Cabin window [kitchen area]
  • Cabin rear door frame with one door hinge and one screen door hinge still attached
  • Rear interior and exterior door trim
  • Interior base boards
  • Interior window frame [next to back door]
  • 1 Cabin window [rear room left of the rear door]
  • 5 bundles of cabin flooring
  • 3 large sections of interior walls
  • Cabin roofing
  • Roofing nails from the workshed
  • Cabin roofing cap
  • 3 remaining chimney stones [painted styrofoam]
  • Exterior Cabin wood [various locations]
  • Exterior Cabin plaster
  • One 55 gallon drum inside of the workshed [Resin labels – possibly used for the trees]
  • One 55 gallon drum found 100 feet from the back door [appears to be the one Ash tripped over]
  • The complete upper West wall of the living room [above where the cellar door would have been]
  • Roofing slats from the Workshed
  • One break away Ram-O-Cam door with a hinge attached
  • 90% of all remaining coal rocks where Ash buried Linda
  • A very large amount of window glass
  • The rear stairs framing
  • One rear stair
  • Small and Large pieces of white interior wall

Once again, I highly recommend heading to Mike’s page where he documents everything he did, because it’s extremely impressive. We’re talking about the endeavors and skills of a true horror fan and he deserves our thanks! Below, I’ve included a few pictures that Mike has posted, showing us fans the site now and his progress.

So there you have it, proof that you – nor I – are the “ultimate Evil Dead fan”. I think that as I’ve shown here, Mike from EvilDeadWorkShed takes that spot pretty easily. The question remains though: what do You think about the concept of rebuilding an iconic Cabin? Is it something that needs to be done? Or an unnecessary piece of work? Let me know in the comments! Also, if you find yourself to enjoy what I do on here, then please take a minute and follow me over on my Facebook page [we’re now at over 150+ likes – let’s reach over 200!]

I recently reviewed Captain America: Civil War, and I gotta say: I absolutely loved it! [read that spoiler filled review here] Apparently so much, that I’m actually seeing it again tonight! [I recommend it highly for any Marvel fan]

“The Littlest Deadite” : a Children’s Story based on ‘Evil Dead II’

Like many horror fans, artist Sean Hughes is a big fan of the Evil Dead film series. Like all of us, he no doubt probably believes that these movies are highly entertaining, with some of them offering a few scares and definitely a damn near endless supply of blood and gore in order to satisfy even the hardened horror fan.

But what about the people that want to share those kinds of experiences with their younger children or siblings? I’m not talking about 9 or 10 year olds, but even younger: The ones that you are still tucking into bed, who are barely out of their strollers; the ones that you plan to read a bedtime story to every night. Well luckily for us, that’s where Hughes comes to the rescue, with his latest story, which he calls: The Littlest Deadite.

Although technically not available in book-form, [which if it was, I’d be all over the idea of buying a copy!] Hughes has put together his own take on Evil Dead II by drawing and creating an almost “child friendly” version of the movie’s plot, giving it an adorable – yet still faithful to the original story – creepy twist to what we could have expected if Evil Dead was rated G.

Although you can’t expect to find Ed [above] or even Ash in The Littlest Deadite, it features a new, unnamed Deadite who wants to find himself a soul to swallow, and his wandering adventures as he tries to find one. There’s definite throwbacks to Evil Dead which include the Oldsmobile, the [infamous] tree, and cabin from the film.

Now I know what you’re thinking: if this isn’t a book, [yet?] how am I supposed to read it? Luckily for you, I have you covered. Hughes actually posted the entire story online for free on his blog and it’s pretty damn exciting. I feel that there should even be a Kickstarter for it to become a book – in which case I’d buy it in a heart beat. However, for now, we have to deal with it being only an online ‘picture book’ of sorts. But, in order to save you the wall of pictures – ten in total – I found an album on Imgur which has all of them, in order for your reading convenience. I promise, it’s totally cute, and totally worth your time. [read The Littlest Deadite here]

yet another Deadite you shouldn’t expect to see in the story..

So now I look to you: what do you think of The Littlest Deadite? Is it the greatest ‘fan art’ you’ve seen in a long time? Or do you think Evil Dead should be left to the adult, horror fans? Let me know in a comment or two what you think.

Also, if find yourself to enjoy what I do here – whether it’s movie reviews or news kind of like this – then please take a minute and follow me over on my Facebook page [it’s at over 125+ likes – only a few more and we’ll have reached over 130!] By clicking that “like” button, you’ll see every post from warrenisweird the very moment it’s been posted online; and I also share links to articles and pictures/videos that will not be featured here on the blog.
